REMAINS World renowned ancient DNA researcher Eske Willerslev is on a quest to find out what 10,000-year-old US human bones may tell us about the first Americans. But ethical and personal dilemmas pile up in the Danish professor’s encounters with today’s indigenous peoples. The film ‘Remains’ is based on the Danish television series ‘DNA Detective’, which follows the scientific adventures of Professor Eske Willerslev around the world over the course of a decade. DNA DETECTIVE Over a 10 year period, director Linus Mørk has followed Danish DNA-scientist Eske Willerslev closely around the world and given a vivid and empathic presentation of the biggest triumphs and crises of his career. Linus’ ambition has been not only to document a top scientist’s hunt for new discoveries but also to focus on the larger ethical and political dilemmas surrounding his work – and to do so in an entertaining format full of humour and emotion. The result is a series of scientific adventures in which the road to new discoveries is rife with ethical dilemmas, political agendas and personal ambitions.
